We usually plant the saplings during the monsoon season only. But in some cases, we can plant during other months as well.
We can, if you wish. But we strongly recommend plantation during monsoons only!
We have a team of volunteers who are well-versed in planting. The process includes scouting the site and looking for a suitable place to dig. Once that is fixed, a minimum of 2-3 feet deep pit is dug so that the sapling can be planted and its roots can grow well. We then loosen up the soil of the sapling bag so that its roots have space to growly freely. We then cover the pit with dry leaves and mud and fill the space so that there is a small peak. This is to ensure that the roots are not surfaced easily while watering and the water stays around the plant for a long time. You visit our YouTube channel to explore videos of our plantation.
It is not really required as Nelda provides you with the tools and sapling to be planted. But you’re always welcome to bring any saplings or tools you have to use!

As Hanuman Tekdi is mostly free from human influence and is located right in the heart of the city, it makes the perfect spot to build an urban forest. It is also one of the sites protected by the Forest Department of Pune. It also has water tanks built, thanks to the earlier generations. All these reasons led us to select Hanuman Tekdi as our project site.

Project Nelda was launched in the year 2016 with a plan to help increase the green cover of Pune and help maintain the balance of urban ecosystems. Nelda Foundation is a non-profit company focused on tree plantation & related environmental activities.
Nelda means ‘champion’ in the Irish language and a person who lives by alder trees. We chose this name to show that every person working for environment conservation is a champion.
We have been working continuously since June 2016. Since then, we’ve had 100s of tree plantation and maintenance events.
We are currently working at Hanuman Tekdi on S.B Road, Pune. But we occasionally also work at other places, helping other NGOs.
As Hanuman Tekdi is based in the heart of the Pune City, and is protected forest land, we chose this spot to carry out our urban forestation drives.
